One question still remains, however: How do you get from your current surveillance system to one that's capable of capturing constructive video intelligence?

Deciding On A Migration Path
There's no single migration path that works for every retailer. If your current analog technology has reached its end of life, you might consider wholesale replacement of your system with an IP-based video solution. If you're not ready to replace your legacy analog cameras, consider connecting them to video encoders to digitize the video stream, allowing other non-security departments to view and analyze the video over the store's existing network. This will create an open — yet secure — surveillance system that will enable you to do more with less.
